Whether the Florida Gators are able to take down the hated-rival Florida State Seminoles on Saturday inside Doak Campbell Stadium remains to be seen. What’s for sure, though, is that Florida head coach Billy Napier has been stuffing his counterpart, Mike Norvell, into a shed on the recruiting trail.
Continuing their significant momentum with the early signing period approaching, the Gators on Tuesday received a commitment from four-star running back Byron Louis (Fort Lauderdale, FL), who had been committed to FSU since September. He is ranked as the No. 231 overall prospect in the 247Sports Composite, making him UF’s fifth-highest rated pledge.
Louis (5-foot-11, 200 pounds) is the sixth high school prospect to join Florida’s Class of 2025 in the last two weeks. Each acquisition was committed to another school with three previously serving as members of the ‘Noles class.
Four-star quarterback Tramell Jones Jr. (Jacksonville, FL) and three-star offensive lineman Daniel Pierre Louis (Loxahatchee, FL) moved on from Florida State last week. Three-star defensive lineman Stephon Shivers (Brentwood, TN) joined after being part of Georgia’s class, four-star linebacker Ty Jackson (Loxahatchee, FL) linked up with Florida after previously deciding to go to USC, and on Monday, three-stars wide receiver Muizz tounkara (League City, TX) and OL Jahari Medlock (Riverdale, GA) flipped to UF after respectively being committed to Arizona and Cincinnati.
With four-star Waltez Clark (Tampa, FL) also in the class, the Gators have recruited their one-two punch at running back for what remains one of the nation’s best rushing rooms.
Florida moved up an additional spot to No. 17 in the 247Sports Composite team rankings with Louis now on board. It has boosted its standing 26 slots over the last week-plus after sitting at No. 43 prior to the LSU game. UF had fallen to as low as 51st in early November.
As the Gators add commitments, they will continue progressing up those rankings; however, it will take landing some big fish to push Florida up to delivering the level of class (top 10) that has been expected from Napier. As it stands now, the Gators’ Class of 2025 will likely be the lowest-ranked yet during his tenure, which likely means UF will put a greater concentration on the transfer portal this offseason.
