It has been exactly one month since the Florida Gators landed a particularly notable addition to their Class of 2027, as head coach Jon Sumrall continues piecing together what looks like it will be one of the top assembled groups in the nation once the process concludes. That relative drought came to an end Monday when defensive back Kamauri Whitfield (Orlando, FL) committed to join the Gators.
Whitfield (5-foot-11, 185 pounds), nicknamed “Bam,” is not rated highly as a three-star prospect, but he was reportedly among Florida’s top targets at the position, according to 247Sports. He chose UF over Nebraska and Oregon.
Exactly one month ago, on June 6, four-star linebacker Ellis McGaskin (Mobile, AL) committed to join the Gators. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound prospect chose the program over Florida State and LSU, though he took an official visit to the latter program two weeks later. Joining him in suring up the middle of Florida’s defense is three-star DB Robert Geathers III (Charlotte, NC), a 6-foot-2, 212-pound bruiser who bypassed offers from Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee.
The Gators have also added a pair of specialists in kicker Aaron McWilliams (Sharpsburg, GA) and long snapper Jaydee Lane (Mendenhall, MS), ranked No. 6 and No. 2 at their respective positions nationally, per 247Sports.
After moving as high as No. 3, Florida now stands No. 10 in the 247Sports team rankings, due in large part to having fewer five-star and more three-star pledges than nine of the 10 teams above it. The Gators are No. 8 in the 247Sports Composite rankings, and they have the potential to move up both lists should they acquire more prospects before the year is out.
