It has been exactly one month since the Florida Gators landed a particularly notable addition to their Class of 2027, as head coach Jon Sumrall continues piecing together what looks like it will be one of the top assembled groups in the nation once the process concludes. That relative drought came to an end early this week as defensive backs Raheem Floyd (East St. Louis, Illinois) and Kamauri Whitfield (Orlando, FL) committed to join the Gators.
Floyd (6-foot-1, 175 pounds) is considered the recruiting prize of the two, a four-star prospect ranked No. 155 overall by 247Sports as the 17th-best cornerback in the nation. He pledged to Florida over Missouri and Ole Miss.
Whitfield (5-foot-11, 185 pounds), nicknamed “Bam,” is not rated highly as a three-star prospect, but he was reportedly among the Gators’ top targets at the position, according to 247Sports. He chose Florida over Nebraska and Oregon.
Exactly one month ago, on June 6, four-star linebacker Ellis McGaskin (Mobile, AL) committed to join the Gators. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound prospect chose the program over Florida State and LSU, though he took an official visit to the latter program two weeks later. Joining him in suring up the middle of Florida’s defense is three-star DB Robert Geathers III (Charlotte, NC), a 6-foot-2, 212-pound bruiser who bypassed offers from Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee.
The Gators have also added a pair of specialists in kicker Aaron McWilliams (Sharpsburg, GA) and long snapper Jaydee Lane (Mendenhall, MS), ranked No. 6 and No. 2 at their respective positions nationally, per 247Sports.
After moving as high as No. 3, Florida now stands No. 7 in the 247Sports Composite team rankings, and it has the potential to move up should UF acquire more blue-chip prospects before the year is out.
