The Florida Gators struggled out of the gate building their Class of 2025 amid plenty of questions about head coach Billy Napier’s future, but momentum has picked up significantly late in the process after Napier received a vote of confidence from the administration and the Gators picked up consecutive wins over top 25 opponents for the first time under this staff.
The latest prospect to jump on board are three-star wide receiver Muizz Tounkara (League City, TX) and three-star offensive lineman Jahari Medlock (Riverdale, GA), who each flipped their commitments to Florida on Monday.
Tounkara (6-foot-4, 195 pounds) had been committed to Arizona, while Medlock (6-foot-6, 278 pounds) was previously committed to Cincinnati and also being recruited by Georgia.
All six of the Gators’ recent pledges have been flips with four-star quarterback Tramell Jones Jr. (Jacksonville, FL) and three-star OL Daniel Pierre Louis (Loxahatchee, FL) moving on from Florida State, three-star defensive lineman Stephon Shivers (Brentwood, TN) joining after being part of the Bulldogs’ class, and four-star linebacker Ty Jackson (Loxahatchee, FL) switching to Florida from USC earlier Monday.
Florida moved up an additional spot to No. 18 in the 247Sports Composite team rankings with Tounkara and Medlock now on board. It has boosted its standing 25 slots over the last week after sitting at No. 43 prior to the LSU game. UF had fallen to as low as 51st in early November.
As the Gators continue to add commitments, they will naturally progress up those rankings; however, it will take landing some big fish to push Florida up to delivering the level of class that has been expected from Napier. As it stands now, the Gators’ Class of 2025 will likely be the lowest-ranked yet during his tenure, which likely means UF putting a greater concentration on the transfer portal this offseason.
