It has undoubtedly been a “good” week for the Florida Gators’ recruiting efforts, as head coach Jon Sumrall has continued to amass significant talent ahead of his first season leading the program. Over the last few days, Florida received a trio of commitments with four-star defensive linemen Cahron Wheeler (Baltimore, MD) and Zahmar Tookes (Rochester, NY) as the standout pledges.
Wheeler (6-foot-5, 266 pounds), ranked No. 108 overall in the 247Sports Composite, chose UF over Auburn, Clemson and Tennessee on Wednesday. Two days later, Tookes (6-foot-4, 235 pounds), ranked No. 250 overall, picked Florida over Georgia, Nebraska and Penn State.
The duo continues Sumrall’s concentration on acquiring blue-chip prospects across the line of scrimmage. The Gators now have six players rated four stars or higher committed up front, including three of its top four pledges in the Class of 2027.
Florida also locked up three-star athlete Kamarion Johnson (Homerville, GA) with the 6-foot, 185-pounder choosing UF over Florida State and Cincinnati. Johnson primarily plays wide receiver in high school, but it is expected that he will focus on being a defensive back at the next level.
The Gators are now ranked No. 3 in the 247Sports Composite team rankings behind Texas A&M and Oklahoma. Sumrall is on his way to acquiring one of the most talented first-year recruiting classes in program history.
