Just a few days after losing their second-highest rated commitment in the Class of 2021, the Florida Gators saw a replacement jump into the fold while also adding a big-time playmaker to their recruiting class. Four-star defensive back Donovan McMillon (Canonsburg, PA) verbally committed to the program on Saturday, while four-star wide receiver Marcus Burke (Jacksonville, FL) made his intentions known Monday.
McMillon (6-foot-2, 193 pounds) projects as a safety in college. He named Florida as one of his five finalists back on June 1 and ultimately committed to the Gators over Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas A&M and Virginia Tech.
“I have decided to commit to the University of Florida,” McMillon wrote in a Twitter graphic. “Head coach Dan Mullen and his staff relentlessly recruited me and I thank them for believing in this wrestler from McMurray, PA right outside of Pittsburgh. I will continue to work my “Gator” tail off to uphold the tradition of the real DBU … Go Gators!”
Burke (6-foot-3, 180 pounds) is a versatile pass catcher who can work both inside and outside but needs to improve his strength and blocking in college. He committed to Florida over Georgia and Penn State after naming the Gators as his leader back in March.
“I have found a home. I am 100% committed to the University of Florida,” Burke said in a Twitter graphic.
Florida remains stagnant with its Class of 2021 ranked 10th nationally and fourth in the SEC despite the additions of both players. Burke is a complete four-star prospect ranked No. 223 overall in the 247Sports Composite; he’s now the fifth-highest rated Gators commit. McMillon is not rated by ESPN and is therefore a three-star in the composite rankings; however, he is listed by 247Sports as a four-star prospect and the No. 145 overall player in its rankings.
The Gators are one of only three teams in the top 10 without a five-star commitment. They now have 19 underclassmen commits (10 four-stars, nine three-stars) as part of their Class of 2021, which was ranked as high as seventh nationally this summer. Florida is also counting a pair of former commitments now in junior college — linebacker Diwun Black and guard Deyavie Hammond — as part of its class, giving UF 21 overall for this cycle. Black is ranked as the No. 1 overall JUCO player in the nation, per 247Sports.
