The Florida Gators on Sunday added another high-quality pass catcher to their Class of 2025. Four-star wide receiver Naeshaun Montgomery (Miami, FL) committed to Florida as the third player at his position this cycle.
Montgomery (6-foot-1, 165 pounds) has scouts differing over his collegiate projection. He is rated No. 179 overall (No. 18 WR) in the 247Sports Composite, though the organization’s own ratings list him as the 46th-best wideout in the nation, one notch below being a four-star. It is not clear over which schools Montgomery committed to Florida, but he did have offers from the likes of LSU, Penn State and others.
The speedster loved the pitches from head coach Billy Napier and wide receivers coach Billy Gonzales about how he will be utilized in the Gators’ offense. He personally compares himself to DeVonta Smith, and certainly UF fans would be thrilled to see that kind of production from him in the orange and blue.
Montgomery is the program’s sixth commitment in just over one month as Florida plays catch up with the Class of 2025.
The Gators’ poor play the first two seasons under Napier coupled with an exceedingly difficult schedule and “hot seat” talks has led to some prospects being wary of making pledges before seeing the product put on the field in Year 3. In fact, they spent most of the summer in the bottom of the recruiting rankings given their lacking numbers and dearth of top-tier commitments.
However, Florida has steadily moved up the rankings over the last five weeks. It now sits 24th nationally in the 247Sports Composite despite only holding 14 commitments, fewer than nearly every team ranked ahead of it. There is also a belief that many of the Gators’ current pledges will see their individual ratings rise during their senior seasons.
