Capping another tremendous season for Florida Gators in the NFL, two former players won championship rings Sunday night as the Philadelphia Eagles prevailed in dominant fashion over the Kansas City Chiefs at Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans. The Eagles amassed a 40-14 victory, the largest in a Super Bowl since 2014, behind an MVP performance from their defense, which held the Chiefs to less than 300 total yards.
Among the stars on that unit was defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson, who completed an incredible season in Philadelphia with three tackles (one solo) in the title game. Offensive tackle Fred Johnson also saw action as a backup lineman for the new NFL champions.
Eagles executive vice president and general manager Howie Roseman is also a graduate of Florida.
For the Chiefs, offensive lineman Jawaan Taylor and D.J. Humphries both saw action with Taylor earning the start after himself grabbing a ring with Kansas City last season.
Sunday marked the 14th time in 16 seasons that a Florida player won a Super Bowl ring. It was also 23nd consecutive year in which at least one player was rostered on a team in the big game. Overall, UF has now won 45 total rings by 36 players across 27 Super Bowls.
