With a few roster spots still left to fill ahead of the 2023 season, the Florida Gators handed out a scholarship this weekend to JUCO defender Quincy Ivory (Alief, TX). While on an official visit to Florida, Ivory jumped at the opportunity to join the Gators out of East Los Angeles College.

“I want to thank [the coaches] for showing me why Gainesville, Florida is where i need to be. With that being said Gator Country, lets make history,” he tweeted Saturday.

Ivory (6-foot-5, 255 pounds) was actually a quarterback when he left high school and joined Mississippi Valley State before moving to defense when he transferred to ELAC. He has been on Florida’s radar for most of the offseason after finishing the 2022 campaign with 8.5 sacks in 10 games.

The Gators were Ivory’s only Power Five offer, hence him quickly making a decision once a scholarship was available. However, Florida is in need of depth at EDGE, making him a low-risk, high-upside prospect.

Ivory is technically a member of the Class of 2023; he will join UF after he completes his associate’s degree. The Gators have 34 new players set to join the roster between high school talents, JUCO prospects and the transfer portal.
