With more than 300 recruits in attendance for the 2022 Orange & Blue Game on Thursday, it was only a matter of time before the verbal commitments started rolling in. The Florida Gators received the first of those on Sunday as 2023 wide receiver Tyree Patterson (Eustis, FL) announced his intention to play college football 90 minutes up the road.

“Glad to announce I am committed to the University Of Florida,” Patterson tweeted Sunday. “I’m glad to be a gator.”

Patterson (6-foot-2, 175 pounds) is still in the mist of being evaluated by recruiting services, but 247Sports lists him as a three-star prospect and the No. 128 overall wideout in the class. Florida was the first Power Five program to offer him a scholarship, and he visited during the Orange & Blue Game last week with wide receivers coach Keary Colbert leading the recruitment.

He is also the first 2023 prospect to commit to the program since Billy Napier took over as head coach in December. Given the hole the Gators were in for the Class of 2022, Napier and his staff put a full-court press on those prospects; they are in the process of making up ground for the upcoming cycle.

Four-star athlete Aaron Gates (Sharpsburg, GA) is the program’s lone other 2023 commitment with his pledge coming back in August 2021 under the previous regime.
