As the Florida Gators attempt to replenish their roster following a string of departures to the 2023 NFL Draft and transfer portal, the program hauled in a bit addition Friday night. Memphis defensive tackle Cam’Ron Jackson (Haynesville, LA) committed to transfer to the Gators just one day after entering the portal.

“Im Coming Home,” Jackson tweeted.

Jackson (6-foot-6, 340 pounds), previously a three-star prospect in the Class of 2020, compiled 41 tackles (2.5 for loss) and a sack last season for the Tigers. He is seen as a high-ceiling run stuffer who can also get pressure up the middle when needed. 247Sports has not yet reevaluated him as a transfer prospect, but he would likely be graded much higher than he was out of high school.

Florida and Miami were each attempting to host Jackson on a visit next weekend, so his sudden commitment does come as a bit of a surprise, though he will take an official visit to UF on Jan. 6. The Gators have a significant need in the middle of their defense, and as a prospect out of Louisiana, Jackson likely had connections to numerous members of the coaching staff.

Head coach Billy Napier has put a premium on targeting transfers with multiple years of eligibility remaining. Though Jackson has already played three seasons, he has two years of eligibility left and will join Florida in 2023 for his redshirt junior season.

Jackson is the third transfer the Gators have acquired this offseason along with newly graded four-star defensive end Caleb Banks (Louisville) and three-star quarterback Graham Mertz (Wisconsin).
