With the 2019 season in the books, the Florida Gators continued their strong push toward the first National Signing Day of the 2020 cycle on Friday when they picked up a commitment from four-star offensive tackle Joshua Braun (Live Oak, FL). The latest top prospect to join the class, Braun was previously committed to Georgia but withdrew his pledge just two days ago.
Braun (6-foot-6, 335 pounds) is a huge commitment for the Gators as he represents the top-tier offensive linemen that Florida needs in order to compete more consistently in the SEC. The Sunshine State product is ranked 284th nationally, per the 247Sports Composite, and is the team’s 16th four-star commitment out of 23 pledges.
As he has already graduated from Suwanee High School and is an early enrollee, Braun will join the Gators immediately for Orange Bowl practices and enroll in the spring 2020 semester.
Florida offensive line coach John Hevesy has long been after Braun, and it certainly helped the Gators that Georgia offensive line coach Sam Pittman left the program to take the head coaching job at Arkansas.
The addition of Braun boosts Florida’s Class of 2020 to No. 6 in the 247Sports Composite team rankings ahead of both Texas and Georgia. The Gators’ class is ranked No. 4 in the SEC behind Alabama, LSU and Texas A&M. Florida has not pulled in a class ranked higher than No. 9 since 2013.
The first National Signing Day of the 2020 cycle begins on Wednesday, Dec. 18 with the early signing period.
