It was not long ago when the end zones on Florida Field at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium were simple grass with the words “Florida” and “Gators” colorized in blue with orange outline. Then the Florida Gators decided to make a change, coloring the end zones orange last season — a move that has carried over throughout the 2019 campaign.

With No. 11 Florida set to wear all blue on Saturday and the in-state rival Florida State Seminoles coming to town, the Gators have decided to do something different. The end zones for the final home game of 2019 will be blue with “Florida” and “Gators” in orange outlined in white.

The contrast between the now-blue end zones and the orange walls of The Swamp is attractive and perhaps an overall improvement considering the all-orange look was a bit much in the past. It provides the field with a smoother look and should pop at night under the bright stadium lights.

It appears — at this time — that this is a temporary move for Saturday’s game as Florida has not made an announcement one way or another about how the end zones will look going forward.

The Gators on Saturday are looking for their first consecutive 10-win seasons since 2008-09. Head coach Dan Mullen would be only the third in program history to achieve such a mark, joining Steve Spurrier and Urban Meyer.
