Beyond the Florida Gators’ poor performances on the field this season, the roster has basically been an ever-expanding list of walking wounded. That trend continued Monday when redshirt sophomore wide receiver Eugene Wilson III was ruled out for the remainder of the 2025 campaign amid a decision to undergo ankle surgery.

Wilson has largely failed to live up to his high school recruiting pedigree, largely due to an endless string of injuries he has suffered since joining Florida ahead of the 2023 season. The latest came during breakout performance against Georgia when he hauled in nine receptions for 121 yards and a touchdown.

Hurting his ankle late in that game, Wilson did not play against Kentucky this past week. He now joins freshman WR Dallas Wilson (knee) as top-level pass catchers sidelined for the season.

Ranked as the No. 109 overall player in the Class of 2023, Tre Wilson caught 61 passes for 538 yards with six touchdowns across 10 games as a true freshman. Over the last two seasons, he has equaled that playing total with 10 total appearances in which he amassed only 46 receptions for 505 yards and four scores.

Freshman Vernell Brown III and redshirt sophomore Aidan Mizell will serve as the fleet-footed playmakers at wideout for the remainder of the season; however, they were supposed to be two of four at that position for the entire season.

Brown is the Gators’ top pass catcher this season, having hauled in 33 passes for 473 yards without a score.
