As 2020-21 college basketball schedules continue to take shape, it appears as if the Florida Gators have added a big opponent to its forthcoming slate in the Virginia Cavaliers. Two of the top teams in the SEC and ACC, respectively, have agreed in principle to meet on Nov. 27 at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut, according to CBS Sports’ Matt Norlander.

The meeting would be part of a two-game trip for each team with Florida and Virginia each playing a mid-major opponent in the venue a couple days earlier on Nov. 25, per Norlander. The Mohegan Sun is in the midst of creating a mini bubble that would see some of the top teams in the nation rotate in and out of its facility before conference schedules begin this winter.

UF was supposed to play at the Mohegan Sun in December but had its scheduled games canceled as most nonconferences slates have been nixed amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Gators are 2-1 all-time against the Cavaliers with all three games occurring in the postseason; the programs have never met in a regular-season game. Florida last beat Virginia 65-39 in the second round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament.

After disappointing last season, the Gators enter the 2020-21 campaign with lowered national expectations despite returning a bevy of starters. It will be a key season for head coach Mike White, who enters his sixth season leading Florida but has won just 62.4% of his games overall, 60% in SEC play. The Gators reached the Elite Eight in White’s second season but have not progressed since the second round since.
