As Florida Gators basketball embarks on a highly anticipated 2019-20 season, head coach Mike White remains focused on building the program for the future. Florida took a major step towards doing that Friday as four-star forward Samson Ruzhentsev (Chattanooga, TN) announced his verbal commitment for the Gators.

“Excited to announce that I’ll be attending the university of Florida next year!!” he wrote on Twitter. “YESSIR GATORNATION.”

Ruzhentsev (6-foot-7, 210 pounds), a native Russian and the No. 110 overall player in the country per the 247Sports Composite, committed to Florida over Ole Miss. Georgia Tech and Stanford were also in the running for his talents. A scoring wing, Ruzhentsev is also complimented for his strong defense and is seen by many as a prospect with the tools to develop into a big-time college basketball player.

After taking three official visits in as many weeks — he stopped by UF on Sept. 27 — Ruzhentsev decided to call off his recruitment. He was scheduled to take an official to Stanford on Sunday, and it is unknown whether he still plans to visit.
