The Florida Gators just got an injection of talent for their Class of 2019 after four-star linebacker Mohamoud Diabate (Auburn, AL) committed to the program on Thursday.
At 6-foot-4 and 215 pounds, Diabate is rated as the 114th overall prospect in the nation per the 247Sports Composite. He was a strong Florida lean at the time of his pledge despite a flurry of offers over the last six months and a pair of recent visits to his hometown Auburn.
Diabate, who is now UF’s second-highest rated commitment for 2019, made his pledge in a recruiting video filmed by AL.com.
Here’s how 247Sports‘ John Garcia, Jr. has evaluated Diabate.
Mohamoud Diabate is a long and lean pass rusher who can stress the edge of an offensive line with his hand in the ground or from a stand up position. His 6-foot-4 frame and sheer athleticism allows him to get to the passer quicker than most, with the length and range to help make up for a lack of polish early in his prep career. Diabate plays with a high motor and runs very well for his size, allowing him to make plays all over the field. With better leverage and added bulk to his frame before the next level, he can be a force fairly early in his college career.
Linebackers coach Sal Sunseri served as Diabate’s primary recruiter with defensive coordinator Todd Grantham playing a significant role as well.
Now with 13 commitments in the Class of 2019, though only six four-star pledges, the Gators have moved up to No. 23 in the 247Sports team rankings. Florida is ranked 11th among the 14 SEC programs and sits behind both of its primary in-state rivals. The early signing period for the 2019 cycle is less than four months away.
