Florida football recruiting: Four-star DB Corey Collier gives Gators two big commits in two days

The Florida Gators got another boost to their suddenly star-studded Class of 2021 on Monday afternoon when four-star defensive back Corey Collier (Miami, FL) verbally committed to the program. He announced his decision just one day after his even more highly-decorated teammate also chose to continue his career with the Gators.

Collier (6-foot-2, 170 pounds) committed to Florida over Miami and LSU. Five-star cornerback Jason Marshall (Miami, FL), Collier’s teammate at Palmetto High School, committed to the Gators over the Hurricanes on Sunday.

The No. 83 overall player in the Class of 2021 per the 247Sports Composite, Collier is rated as the third-best safety in the country. He is now Florida’s second-highest rated commitment behind only Marshall (No. 29 overall).

With Collier’s decision, the Gators’ next incoming class has soared to No. 6 in the 247Sports Composite team rankings, jumping LSU and Miami. It is now ranked No. 3 in the SEC behind Alabama and Tennessee. Florida opened the weekend ranked 12th nationally and shot up to No. 9 after Marshall’s commitment.

Collier is the Gators’ 23rd underclassman-to-be (one five-star, 11 four-stars, 11 three-stars) to commit to the program for 2021. Florida is also counting a pair of former commitments now in junior college — linebacker Diwun Black and guard Deyavie Hammond — as part of its class, giving UF 25 overall for this cycle. Black is ranked as the No. 1 overall JUCO player in the nation, per 247Sports.
