A long-time lean, three-star linebacker James Houston (Fort Lauderdale, FL) made a verbal commitment to the Florida Gators during the team’s annual Friday Night Lights summer camp, according to multiple reports including 247Sports.
The latest in a long line of South Florida prospects recruited by Gators co-coordinator Randy Shannon, Houston (6-foot-1, 225 pounds) held offers from a number of major programs but chose to remain in-state and play at Florida.
According to 247Sports‘ Ryan Bartow, Houston picked UF over a final five that, in order, included Wisconsin, South Carolina, Michigan and Miami.
Houston, who tore his ACL this month, is the 11th member of the Gators’ Class of 2017 and second linebacker, joining three-star Ventrell Miller (Lakeland, FL). He’s the fourth-lowest rated (sixth three-star compared to five four-stars), seventh from the state of Florida and fourth from the South Florida region.

A 3_star with a torn ACL ??????????
Probably why he’s a 3 star dude.
How could this be considered a commitment when the kid said this right after: “I wouldnt say I am locked in but I am a hard commit”
So you are holding a spot just in case your dream school doesn’t offer.
