Florida football recruiting: Four-star WR Jerrae Hawkins commits continuing ascent of 2024 class

While the Florida Gators recruiting train may have made a stop to refuel, it kicked back into gear Monday with another blue-chip prospect deciding to continue his career in Gainesville, Florida. Four-star wide receiver Jerrae Hawkins (Bradenton, FL) committed to the Gators becoming the 10th player to link with the program over the last 15 days.

“I want to say I appreciate all the coach who have recruited me and helping me with the process but I’ll be committing to The UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA !!,” he tweeted Monday.

Hawkins (5-foot-9, 165 pounds), a speedy yet undersized playmaker the likes of which Gators position coach Billy Gonzales is immensely familiar, made his pledge to Florida over Penn State with Miami also in contention. He is the No. 229 overall player in the 247Sports Composite but ranked 172nd by the recruiting service’s internal rankings.

The Gators have a long history of utilizing track stars of Hawkins’ size offensively, most notably Jeff Demps, Chris Rainey, Brandon James and Brandon Powell. He has run 10.45 seconds in the 100 meters and is thought to run sub-4.3 seconds in the 40-yard dash.

Hawkins’ commitment pushes Florida into a tie for third with Michigan in the 247Sports Composite team rankings. The Gators held that spot for much of the last week, but the Wolverines had jumped them after getting a couple commitments in the prior few days.
