Steve Spurrier will be back on the sidelines for the Florida Gators this fall. He’ll just be 26 years younger with a “Jr.” attached to his name. Indeed, Steve Spurrier Jr., the son of the Head Ball Coach, will be joining the Gators as an analyst as part of head coach Billy Napier’s support staff, according to multiple reports.

He is expected to fill the role previously held by Dan Enos, the “special assistant to the head coach” who left following the 2024 season to become quarterbacks coach at Wake Forest.

Spurrier Jr., 53, a graduate assistant at Florida under his father from 1994-98, had served as offensive coordinator at Tulsa over the last two seasons but lost his job when Kevin Wilson was fired by the program. The Golden Hurricane ranked 62nd in total offense and 91st in scoring offense during the 2024 campaign.

Prior stops for Spurrier Jr. include wide receivers coach at Mississippi State (2020-22) and Washington State (2018-19), quarterbacks coach at Western Kentucky (2017) and passing game coordinator as his primary role at South Carolina under his father from 2005-15. He also coached at Oklahoma as an offensive assistant (2016) and WR coach (1999-2001), the NFL’s Washington team as a WR coach (2002-03) and Arizona as an offensive assistant (2004). It was with the Wildcats where he worked with current Gators QB coach Ryan O’Hara, the team’s starting signal caller.

Steve Spurrier Sr., 79, coached the Gators from 1990-2001 leading the program to its first national championship in 1996 while also capturing six SEC championships. He won the 1966 Heisman Trophy and SEC Player of the Year honors while being named a unanimous first-team All-America selection that season.

Spurrier was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2017 and Florida Football Ring of Honor in 2006. He currently serves as an athletic ambassador for the Gators and saw the surface of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium renamed to Steve Spurrier-Florida Field in 2016.
