The big fish that the Florida Gators waiting to reel in on National Signing Day has made it onto the boat. Four-star defensive back Kaiir Elam (North Palm Beach, FL) committed to the Gators on Wednesday, choosing Florida primarily over Georgia but also Colorado. Elam, the No. 48 overall player in the Class of 2019, is now UF’s second-highest rated commitment of the cycle.

It had long been assumed that Elam (6-foot-1, 182 pounds) would find his way to the Gators, but this pledge did not come without some consternation. The Bulldogs made a strong more for his commitment by hiring away UF cornerbacks coach and Elam’s primary recruiter in Charlton Warren.

That seemed to put Georgia in the hunt for Elam’s services, and while he did not appear to have the same relationship with new Florida cornerbacks coach Torrian Gray, it appears the Gators overcame that lack of familiarity as head coach Dan Mullen and linebackers coach Christian Robinson led the charge in landing the prospect.

If Elam’s last name sounds familiar, well, it should. He is the nephew of former Gators star safety Matt Elam, who was a standout on Will Muschamp’s defense throughout his career in Gainesville, Florida.

With Elam in tow, Florida has jumped two spots to No. 9 nationally in the 247Sports Composite team rankings. The Gators opened the day at No. 11 and moved into the top 10 for a bit earlier in the day after locking up four-star defensive end Khris Bogle (Fort Lauderdale, FL).

Please change Dionte to a WR, I know he isnt a top 100 guy, but he will be a solid player at WR, not OL…
