The Florida Gators have a lot of questions to answer entering the 2021 college football season, and a difficult slate awaits a team that was hoping to take advantage of what was planned to be a slightly easier one last year. Nevertheless, head coach Dan Mullen and a staff that will include three new assistants, is set to have its hands full.
Florida will open the 2021 season with a pair of nonconference games against local opponents. UF is set to host FAU on Sept. 4 before playing South Florida in its hometown of Tampa — but at the larger Raymond James Stadium — on Sept. 11. Its other nonconference contests come over two of the season’s final three weeks as they host Samford on Nov. 13 and Florida State on Nov. 27.
It was announced Wednesday that the Gators will open their 2021 SEC schedule with as difficult an opponent as possible. Florida will host Alabama on Sept. 18 marking the first time the Crimson Tide will play inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium since 2011. The Gators have lost seven straight games to their SEC West foes dating back to 2009.
Let’s take a look at the complete updated schedule now that the SEC slate has been announced with some notes below it.
