The Florida Gators have a lot of questions to answer entering the 2021 college football season, and a difficult slate awaits a team that was hoping to take advantage of what was planned to be a slightly easier one last year. Nevertheless, head coach Dan Mullen and a staff that will include three new assistants, is set to have its hands full.

Florida will open the 2021 season with a pair of nonconference games against local opponents. UF is set to host FAU on Sept. 4 before playing South Florida in its hometown of Tampa — but at the larger Raymond James Stadium — on Sept. 11. Its other nonconference contests come over two of the season’s final three weeks as they host Samford on Nov. 13 and Florida State on Nov. 27.

It was announced Wednesday that the Gators will open their 2021 SEC schedule with as difficult an opponent as possible. Florida will host Alabama on Sept. 18 marking the first time the Crimson Tide will play inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium since 2011. The Gators have lost seven straight games to their SEC West foes dating back to 2009.

Let’s take a look at the complete updated schedule now that the SEC slate has been announced with some notes below it.

Florida football schedule notes

  • Florida is hosting Alabama in The Swamp for the first time in a decade (2011).
  • The Gators will not play a home game over 34 days in the middle of the season.
  • Florida will play its final SEC home game in Week 6 on Oct. 9.
  • UF will host FSU despite the 2020 game being canceled. That will mark the first time since 1958-63 that consecutive series games are played in Gainesville.
  • Florida-Tennessee is traditionally played in Week 3 or Week 4 of the season. The game returns to the mid-September after being pushed out of the month last season for just the third time since 1991.
