Demar Dorsey no longer being recruited by Gators

Rivals is reporting that four-star safety recruit Demar Dorsey is no longer being recruited by the Florida Gators and, therefore, is free to give his commitment to another program. Mark Wheeler was told Florida informed Dorsey that they were no longer interested in having him as a part of the 2010 recruiting class.

Whether or not this is how this particular situation went down remains to be seen. Reports surfaced Monday evening claiming that Dorsey had decommitted from the Gators and agreed to play for the Florida State Seminoles after visiting the Tallahassee, FL, campus last weekend. He openly wavered with his commitment throughout the process but, as recently as last week, proclaimed that he was 90-95 percent solid to the Gators – the highest percentage he had given them over the last year.

Speaking with Wheeler Tuesday night, Dorsey said he was “50-50 right now” and “up in the air” because of the great experience he had on his visit. He also mentioned that Florida had not scheduled an in-home visit with him. Some sources mentioned that the Gators were going to attempt and visit with Dorsey either Tuesday or Wednesday but apparently those plans were canceled or never existed in the first place.

Though he is considered a heavy Florida State lean, Dorsey will travel West to visit the USC Trojans this weekend and may not make up his mind until National Signing Day on Feb. 3. There were questions about his ability to academically qualify for admission to Florida; whether or not that factored in this decision is not presently known.

Expect the Gators to make an even stronger push for three-star athlete Jeremy Deering (Tampa, FL), who is said to be leaning toward Florida State but may be swayed into changing his mind if Dorsey does indeed sign there on Feb. 3. Deering was originally offered a scholarship after five-star safety Matt Elam (West Palm Beach, FL) decommitted three weeks ago but before he eventually re-committed to Florida.

I don’t even think he can spell Seminoles so best of luck there my well spoken friend. Once the story about his grades being shit breaks fully it’ll smear a nice deuce across FSU’s face or it’ll be off to CC if they are as bad as I heard. The grades reasoning is even more believable with UF saying they don’t want him anymore.

  2. It could just be one of those “I’m dumping you before you dump me” type of deals.

  3. dp says:

Did you hear him talking in that video? He is not Gator quality…he is clearly FSU trash.

  4. There are plenty former and current Gators who speak just like Dorsey, if not worse. Please refrain from trashing these guys superficially, they’re all high school kids. Just a preference.

What are the chances we get Dietrich Riley

  6. Denver Gator says:

Great point Adam, it is amazing how quickly we trash these young men – and I am as guilty as anyone at times. Hopefully he makes a choice that works for him and we are able to fill the spot with someone that works for the Gators.

  7. Gio- Not good, IMO. He kind of balked from the Gators once Matt Elam re-committed. Deering is Florida’s best option to replace Dorsey at this point.

  8. THREE WORDS: GATOR FOOT BALL says:

Do we even need another Safety? I feel like we are very stacked at our defensive back position. Any chance at Jordan Hicks on NSD? and all the best to Demar could have been a gator great but you win some and you lose some

  9. O-town Gator says:

It’s better Dorsey is out of the picture now than our getting punked by him a week from today. If his heart is at F$U or with Kiffykins, then that’s where he belongs. (If he winds up at USC, I woudn’t be surprised to hear another round of braggadocio coming from The Lame One over taking a former UF verbal.)

  10. dp says:

    Dear Demar,

I apologize for my harsh words. I am soooo happy that you dissed my beloved Gators to go to our hated rival FSU. I wish you and the Seminoles the very best for the next four years. I hope that we only beat you by a total of four points. Good luck in all that you do.

    Adam,

    Don’t be so damn sensitive!

  11. Not being sensitive, my friend. Just don’t think its necessary to insult his intelligence and call him trash. He’s a high school football player and, by some accounts, the Gators may have been the ones who dumped him.

  12. gaytors says:

why in the hell would fl dump dorsey for deering. Dorsey is much better besides retard that said three words gator foot ball football is one word

  13. Yeah…I noticed that “gator foot ball”…was pretty dismayed by the spelling/grammar there. And it is not that Florida would dump Dorsey for Deering. The Gators may not have wanted to wait to NSD to only have Dorsey decommit and leave them hanging. Something may have happened with his academics. Something may have happened in a conversation the two parties had. It is really unimportant.

  14. O-town Gator says:

Hey “gaytors”: Does your mommy know you’re on her computer again?

  15. GTRBOY says:

Good job Adam, He may not be the brightest bulb, but he is just a kid….. Go Gators!

  16. ReptilesRule says:

I read somewhere where there may have been an “off the field” issue as well. I know academics have been in question for some time. Or maybe the Florida coaches felt like we were pretty well set at the position and just got tired of his games. I don’t know, sadly, almost all seem to play the game nowadays. But we hung in with Matt Elam and he came to his senses so I don’t know…

  17. 305gator says:

    ” 3 words = gator foot ball”

    thats funny stuff.

  18. O-town Gator says:

If the coaches feel that Dorsey’s not Florida material, it’s better for them to decide at this point in time to let him visit other schools where he’d be a better fit. Another thing to consider is possible attrition; if anything, we don’t want to get in the habit of bringing in players only to have them transfer to another school over lack of playing time, their losing interest in the program, or involuntarily leave the program due to academics, character issues, or other factors.

  19. g8ter27 says:

Well if he does go to Kiffin I am betting we see another Nukeese incident…too bad that jewel got away to Lane.

  20. g8ter27 says:

ps nice site you have here Adam.

  21. Drew 4 Orange and Blue says:

It’s certainly humerous when a kid de-commits we start trashing him…kind of reminds me of Elam….those on here ripping him to shreds when he waffled…Dorsey has top notch speed but as a safety he doesn’t seem to have the frame to be able to put on the weight you would want in a safety….and if he can’t qualify or is a bad apple then it doesn’t matter anyways

Well when he decommits for a rival and its said that his grades are shit(part of the reason UF dumped him) thats exactly what people are going to go after. At least his character, moral values, family and religion weren’t attacked. There is a bright-side here.

  23. It was said that his grades *could be* part of the reason. “Whether or not that factored in this decision is not presently known.” Even so, I don’t think it is necessary to get personal with these kids. Just my opinion, you don’t have to agree with it. I didn’t censor the comment, I just provided my opinion.

  24. Mr2Bits says:

I know, I’m just bustin your chops…always so serious 🙂

  25. dp says:

I know that’s what I said! This site IS called Only GATORS Get Out Alive! He’s not a Gator, so he’s dead to me. (and no, I don’t really want him harmed…only his pride when we smash the Noles!)

  26. dp says:

On another note Adam, I love what you do here. This is the first place I turn for Gator football info.

  27. dp says:

Alright Adam, I need you to be straight up…what are the chances that we get:

    Seantrel Henderson
    Jordan Hicks
    Coxson
    Chaz Green

or do you think the other two spots are going somewhere else now that I hear McFarland is not grey-shirting.

  28. dp-

I will have answers on all of those players either later tonight or first thing tomorrow. Working on a recruiting feature story that covers those exact players and a few more.

  29. Todd says:

UF has had a bit of luck against the Noles lately, but only because Bowden stuck around too long and the program became complacent. This will end soon and UF will be relegated to its traditional spot as the 3rd best program in the state behind FSU and UM.
