Florida Gators release new basketball uniforms

Florida Gators basketball on Thursday released a sneak peak of the team’s slightly-redesigned new uniforms ahead of the 2014-15 season.

It is the first time Florida has refreshed its standard set of uniforms (home, away, alternate) since it adopted the Nike Hyper Elite line in 2011-12.

The Gators are still using the general Nike Hyper Elite style – with gator scales and the two National Championship trophies displayed slightly more prominently down on the full back of the jerseys – but have changed the styling along the sides of the uniforms and bottom of the shorts.

Rather than thin blue and orange lines (for the home white uniform, see below), there is now a thick orange stripe with a blue wavy line. The side striping appears to be an homage (see below) to the uniforms worn by Florida during its back-to-back title runs in 2005-06 and 2006-07 (with the colors reversed).

The collar is also now completely blue, whereas the previous version of the uniform had a white triangle at the front.

No away or alternate versions of the uniform have been shared by the school, as of press time, though this post will be updated when they are available.

The Gators enter the 2014-15 campaign looking to defend their back-to-back Southeastern Conference Championships.

Florida opens practice on Friday, October 17, giving it just under a month to train before its season-opener.

UF will take on VCU in a closed “secret” scrimmage on Saturday, Nov. 1, face Barry University in an exhibition game on Thursday, Nov. 6 and open up the regular season on Friday, Nov. 14 at home against William & Mary.

Are those the national championships? If so I don’t like it. These guys didn’t win any national championships so I don’t think they have the right to wear jerseys with the trophies on them.

    • Yes. They’ve been on the jerseys since 2011-12.

I guess I never looked at the close ups before. I only noticed the scales before. This seems very counter-intuitive to Billy’s whole coaching philosophy. A few years back he kicked the players out of the practice facility because they were acting entitled. What kind of message does it send wearing uniforms with trophies on them?

        • That was seven years ago. 🙂

Sure but the point is that Billy doesn’t want players that take things for granted. They can see the trophies in the case they can see the banners, but I don’t like the idea of having the trophies on shirts for guys who didn’t win them.

Plus do other teams have trophies from years ago on the their jerseys? I don’t like acting like that was the shining moment that we are still living in the past on. These guys have their own goals they should be trying to achieve. Does Duke or UNC or UK or KU have their championships from years back on their jerseys?

            • That line of jerseys was made for a number of teams that had won titles. I do not know if any of those teams is still using this line. For some reason, Florida is sticking with it and making it uglier.
