The Florida Gators on Wednesday added a key piece to their 2020 recruiting class, securing a verbal pledge from four-star defensive end Princely Umanmielen (Manor, TX). The No. 241 overall prospect in the nation, he held his decision until 2020 National Signing Day and ultimately chose the Gators over a bevy of other major programs.
Umanmielen (6-foot-4, 249 pounds) ultimately committed to Florida over Baylor, which is less than 100 miles away from his hometown. He will sign his National Letter of Intent on Wednesday. Auburn and Texas were also both in late for his services , though it was truly a two-team battle down the stretch.
The addition of Umanmielen keeps the Gators at No. 8 overall in the 247Sports Composite, just barely behind Auburn as Florida looks to deliver its highest-ranked class since the 2013 cycle.
The Gators currently have 25 commitments, including one five-star and 16 four-star pledges, but may have has few as 23 signees depending on the academics of two committed playmakers who may not make it into the class.
