Florida football uniform schedule 2026: Gators wearing two blue helmets, including 1966 throwback

As the 2026 college football season kicks into gear, as is the case every year, what uniforms the Florida Gators will wear for their 12 regular-season games has become a hot topic. While head coach Jon Sumrall stated that he has no designs on getting involved in such decisions, Florida will debut and bring back some looks — with some interesting decisions made by the University Athletic Association, in consultation with Nike — for Sumrall’s first year leading the program.

Sumrall previously said he “could give two shits” what the Gators wear, “as long as we keep it to orange, blue, white,” noting he does not “have any desire to wear those green alligator uniforms that were worn here.”

Suffice to say, Gator Nation feels the same way.

Sumrall separately stated, “I don’t care what we wear. You just want to win. If you can win, wear whatever you want. It looks good because you won, and you can wear the coolest uniform ever and lose, and the uniform stinks then. So, let’s win games, and the uniforms will look better.”

Most controversial, as far as Only Gators is concerned, is Florida deciding to wear blue helmets for not one or two but four games this season, one third of the contests it plays. Three of those games will utilize the modern helmet design (with an apparent matte finish). While most were hoping for a return to traditional looks, the Gators will debut some new combinations that are anything but traditional, alongside a 1966 throwback uniform to honor Steve Spurrier’s Heisman Trophy campaign.

Furthering the strange decision-making around the 2026 uniform selection: Florida will not wear the (extremely striking) orange helmet, blue jersey, blue pants combination that has been immensely popular among fans and players. (It was worn regularly during the Gators’ run of success under head coach Urban Meyer, and UF generally performs well in that combination.)

Instead, Florida’s eight uniform combinations across 12 games break down as follows:

2 — Orange helmet, White jersey, Blue pants
2 — Orange helmet, White jersey, Orange pants
1 — Orange helmet, White jersey, White pants
1 — Blue helmet, Orange jersey, White pants

1 — 1966 Steve Spurrier throwback uniform
