Taking arguably the toughest road to the Promised Land out of any team in the 2025 NCAA Tournament, the No. 1 seed Florida Gators are off to their first Final Four appearance in 11 years on the back of a couple heroic performances Saturday night from senior point guard Walter Clayton Jr. and sophomore forward Thomas Haugh.
Leading an 18-4 run that propelled Florida from 10 points down into an 84-79 victory over the No. 3 seed Texas Tech Red Raiders, the duo combined for 60% of the Gators’ points in the contest. Haugh matched his high with 20 points, but adding 11 rebounds made it a career night for the second-year standout. Clayton became the first player in program history to have two 30-point games in the NCAA Tournament; every Florida player before him has combined for one such performance.
The Gators ended Saturday night awaiting knowledge of their Final Four opponent. They will either face the No. 1 overall seed Auburn Tigers, which UF beat by nine points on the road (without redshirt senior guard Alijah Martin) earlier this season, or the East Region No. 2 seed Michigan State Spartans, which beat Florida for the 2000 national championship and subsequently upset it during the second round of the 2003 NCAA Tournament.
The eyes of the Gator Nation were on the Gators and Red Raiders as the first game of the Elite Eight, and there were plenty of Florida players across multiple sports locked into the action. Let’s take a look at how they reacted on Twitter as Florida pulled away late to reach its first Final Four since 2014.
