After sticking at No. 6 across all three sets of college football rankings for multiple weeks, the Florida Gators fell sharply Sunday after throwing away their College Football Playoff hopes in a 37-34 loss at home to the LSU Tigers. Not only did Florida lose on Saturday, it has looked wholly unimpressive in its last three games, which likely played into voters deciding to downgrade their status so significantly.

The Gators are now ranked No. 11 nationally, falling five spots each in the AP Top 25 and Coaches Poll. Florida is one spot behind Georgia, two spots behind it in the latter despite earning a 16-point head-to-head win over its rival just one month ago. UF is the third-ranked two-loss team in the AP Top 25 and fourth-ranked such team in the Coaches Poll, the difference being that AP voters kept it ahead of Oklahoma.

What’s particularly interesting about the Gators’ position is that voters kept them behind Texas A&M for months purely due to the head-to-head loss but are not treating them the same given the far more decisive result against the Bulldogs.

The new CFP Rankings will be released Tuesday evening.
