The Florida Gators’ tight end woes may be coming to an end – next season, that is – as the team on Friday landed a commitment from four-star 2014 prospect DeAndre Goolsby (Derby, KS), its second tight end pledge of the cycle.
At 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds, Goolsby was a must-get at a position of great need for Florida. He visited the school for the second time in a matter of months on Sept. 20 and wound up choosing UF over Arkansas, Kansas State, Ohio State and Oklahoma.
Goolsby is the second tight end to join the Gators’ 2014 class as the program already has two-star C’yontai Lewis (Tuscaloosa, AL) in the fold for next season.
While he is ranked No. 168 overall and considered the third-best player at his position by Rivals, Goolsby is listed as a three-star prospect by ESPN.
He is the 15th member of Florida’s incoming recruiting class, the first to make a pledge for the Gators in three months, and expects to be an early enrollee with a plan to join the program for spring practice in January.
Goolsby’s father, Brian, was a fullback at KSU from 1995-98.
Welcome to the Gator Nation but I don’t see how the #3 TE of 2014 is going to fare any better than the #1 and #2 TE’s from the class of 2011 that we currently have on the roster.
A lot of people didn’t think a converted QB could succeed in the NFL at TE with only two years of experience at the position… and they were wrong. Welcome to Gator Nation Goolsby, time to show the Florida faithful you mean business.
Right, because class rankings are the end-all-be-all and just because we’ve (so far) missed on #1 and #2 from 2011 means this guy will be a bust.
Get real. At worst, he’s a depth guy who barely sees the field. At best, he’ll see the field plenty and fill that pivotal role at TE that UF’s offense has been missing. There’s no real negative outcome here unless the guy goes out and kills someone after graduation, but we all know that UF football players don’t do that.
Hhhmmmmm . . . familiar tone. Familiar style. Is this who I think it is? Did you change your pen name?
Good job, SWFL Joe. Maybe there’s still time for you to help him change his mind about coming here (just in case you don’t think these kids read this stuff, they do). =-/
Hey, Mr. Goolsby, welcome aboard! Gator Nation is happy to have you!!!
GO GATORS!!!
My rule is I believe it when they are on campus, but with this season I will take any good news I can get.
Welcome to the Gators DeAndre . Look forward to lots of good ball . Good Luck !! good news indeed .
Welcome to the Gator Nation.
Did anyone else notice that not a single defensive lineman ever touched him on the los? I hope he can block.
