Three Florida Gators football players met with the media on Monday afternoon during the team’s weekly media day. Below is what sophomore quarterback Jeff Driskel, senior running back Mike Gillislee and junior cornerback Jaylen Watkins had to say.

» Driskel on the offense starting slow in most games: “We went to no-huddle this week to get our tempo going because we feel like we play better and move the ball better when we have a good tempo. […] We would like to start better, and we have to play better throughout the whole game. It’s not just to start the game. The offense has to be more productive, and we’ll work on it.”

» Driskel on not taking sacks: “I noticed after the first one everyone cheered when I threw the ball away. I thought that was kind of funny. When you take a sack, you put the offense in second-and-long and third-and-long. It’s a lot tougher, especially for play calling, to pick those up. When you get a chance to throw the ball away, you got to do it.”

» Gillislee on how he feels health-wise: “Physically, I’m doing good. My body and everything feels good. I’m just focused on finishing the season.”

» Gillislee on letting actions speak louder than words: “You can say that. I ain’t a guy that likes to talk a lot. I like to go out and do it.”

» Gillislee on defending the home field through two more games: “We don’t want to lose in The Swamp, man. Only Gators get out alive.”

» Watkins on the entire secondary stepping up this year: “Having [up to] six guys who played together last year, we’re all on the same page. We all can just play fast and react instead of thinking.”

» Watkins on if the team is rooting for Auburn this week: “I wouldn’t say we’re a fan of another SEC school, but it would be nice to see them get a win.”

» Watkins on the return of redshirt sophomore linebacker Neiron Ball: “I”m happier as a friend, all of us are, not just as a teammate that he’s back and he’s having so much success because he went through a lot. the plays that are coming his way, he’s making them, and he’s just excited to be out there. It means a lot and it shows you to cherish every moment on the field and never give up because he didn’t give up and he came back and he’s a key part of our defense.”
