College football rankings: Florida Gators up, Georgia down in top 25 polls ahead of showdown
Football

The Florida Gators (7-1, 4-1 SEC) came from behind to pick up a key road victory on Saturday afternoon, defeating South Carolina 38-27 to take over first place in the SEC East. With an off week coming up before Florida takes on Georgia in the annual World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party, the Gators will have some time to rest up, recover and rehabilitate ahead of their most important game of the regular season.

On the heels of its seventh win, Florida moved up two spots to No. 7 in the AP Top 25 and one to No. 8 in the coaches Coaches Poll. UF ticked up thanks to Wisconsin’s loss to Illinois and Notre Dame on a bye week. It is now three spots ahead of Georgia (which fell behind Auburn) in the AP Top 25 and just above its SEC East rival in the Coaches Poll. The Gators also remain ahead of the Tigers, which they beat head-to-head two weeks ago.

Alabama held on to the No. 1 spot it took over three weeks ago in both college football rankings, and LSU maintained its grip on No. 2. Clemson slipped behind Ohio State in the AP Top 25 as the Buckeyes gained some first-place votes.
