Florida ranked No. 8 in preseason USA Today poll

The 2013-14 preseason USA Today Coaches’ Poll was released on Thursday with Kentucky opening the season as the No. 1 team in the nation, receiving 16-of-32 first-place votes.

The Florida Gators, which finished the 2012-13 season ranked No. 9, opened up at No. 8 with 550 points in first version of the USA Today rankings.

Florida will play four top-25 teams in non-conference action. The Gators are just one of two Southeastern Conference teams listed in the preseason top 25.

Preseason 1-5: Kentucky (16), Michigan State (3), Louisville (10), Duke (3), Arizona
6-10: Kansas, Syracuse, Florida, Michigan, Ohio State
11-15: North Carolina, Oklahoma State, Memphis, Gonzaga, VCU
16-20: Wichita State, Marquette, Oregon, UConn, New Mexico
21-25: Wisconsin, Notre Dame, UCLA, Indiana, Virginia

    College basketball is such a “usual suspects” sport. Same old programs always at the top. We are fielding–at least on paper–one of the studliest teams I can remember us putting on the court in awhile and we’re not even projected to win our conference. lol.

    Looks like the state of Kentucky has a perennial stranglehold on the #1 spot. But. . . as they say. . . that’s why you play the game.
