Florida Gators continued their recruiting momentum as three-star defensive back Bryce Thornton (Alpharetta, GA) committed to the program on Thursday. Thornton (5-foot-10, 185 pounds) committed to Florida over Alabama at least in part because UF prioritized him in throughout the recruiting process.
Though he is ranked No. 485 overall in the 247Sports Composite, Thornton is clearly seen by the Gators as a far better player than third-party talent evaluators. That is not a thought process the program holds on its own as many other coaching staffs feel the same way about his college prospects as a potential starting nickelback or safety.
Thornton took his official visit to Alabama last month and plans to take one to Florida this weekend for the LSU game. He he previously been on campus multiple times with unofficial visits to see the Gators.
His commitment boosts Florida one spots to No. 11 in the 247Sports Composite team rankings with the Gators knocking on the door of a top 10 spot. UF ended the summer with a top-10 class, though recent commitments elsewhere shifted the rankings prior to Thursday.
Thornton joins four-star CB Ja’Keem Jackson (Kissimmee, FL), four-star DB Jordan Castell (Winter Garden, FL) and four-star CB Sharif Denson (Jacksonville, FL) in the Class of 2023.
Florida is not done recruiting the position with five-star CB Cormani McClain (Lakeland, FL) remaining its top remaining target in the entire class and four-star CB Dijon Johnson (Tampa, FL) scheduled to make his decision Thursday evening.
