It was a deafening environment in Death Valley on Saturday night as the No. 7 Florida Gators (6-1, 3-1 SEC) fell 42-28 to the No. 5 LSU Tigers (6-0, 2-0 SEC) on the road for their first loss of the season. It was truly a tale of two halves as the game was locked at 21 after the first 30 minutes and both offenses were doing whatever they wanted to the opposing defenses. LSU had 265 yards and Florida had 246.

Unfortunately for the Gators, the second half was a different story as they were outscored 21-0 following an opening-drive touchdown and committed one a costly turnover by way of a red-zone interception late in the game. Florida’s defense could not seem to rattle LSU quarterback Joe Burrow whatsoever throughout the game as he finished 21-of-24 passing for 293 yards and three touchdowns, leading the new high-powered offense to another victory.

In all, the Gators gave up 511 yards of offense on 48 total plays (10.6 average), and while the offense finished with 457 yards on 84 plays, there were just too many mistakes made defensively and not enough plays made offensively to pull this one out.

Florida is now 4-2 against ranked opponents under coach Dan Mullen. Despite the loss, plenty of former Gators were proud of the team’s effort and shared their reactions to the defeat on social media.
