In the middle of its second game of the 2020 season on Saturday, the Florida Gators added some massive news on the recruiting trail. Five-star running back Demarkcus Bowman, the No. 2 overall player in the Class of 2020, will reportedly join the Gators after entering the transfer portal after just two games with the Clemson Tigers.

Bowman (Lakeland, FL) committed to Clemson over Florida during his senior season of high school football, though the Gators were in heavy pursuit of one of the most talented players in the country last cycle.

Bowman told TigerNet that he originally committed to the Tigers because he wanted his Atlanta-based grandfather to be able to see him play. Unfortunately, his grandfather died, and he no longer had family nearby, so he was seeking a school closer to home because he started feeling uncomfortable at Clemson.

Florida was immediately considered the clear leader for Bowman (5-foot-10, 190 pounds), not just due to its proximity but the fact that the Gators nearly earned his commitment in the first place. His decision has been reported by multiple outlets, including GatorsTerritory and 247Sports.

Bowman is the third five-star transfer and second such running back that head coach Dan Mullen has secured in as many years. Redshirt sophomore Lorenzo Lingard, who was cleared in September but has not yet touched the ball for the Gators, transferred in the offseason from Miami. Lingard was the No. 25 overall player in the Class of 2018.
