As the Florida Gators continue to add Power Five opponents to their future football schedules, they also need to fill out those slates with additional teams from the Group of Five and beyond. Florida completed its 2021 schedule on Tuesday by announcing it will open that season against the FAU Owls on Saturday, Sept. 4 at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville, Florida.

UF is 3-0 all-time against FAU with all three games coming since 2007 and the teams last meeting in 2015. The Gators’ combined margin of victory over the Owls is 120-37.

That marks the fourth scheduled nonconference game for 2021 and third against an opponent from the Sunshine State. UF will also travel to Tampa to face South Florida on Saturday, Sept. 11 and host Florida State on Saturday, Nov. 27. The remaining nonconference game will see Samford coming to The Swamp on a yet-to-be-announced date that will likely be Saturday, Nov. 20.

Florida will also host Alabama that season as its rotational SEC West opponent, which is likely a major reason the team did not schedule a second Power Five team in the nonconference for 2021.

The USF series is a two-for-one agreement that includes home games for the Gators in 2022 and 2025. Florida has also scheduled home-and-homes with Miami (2024-25), Colorado (2028-29) and Texas (2030-31).
