The No. 13 Florida Gators now have two games under their belt this season, but plenty of questions still persist at quarterback headed into next Saturday’s showdown against No. 1 Alabama. Redshirt junior Emory Jones and redshirt freshmen Anthony Richardson once again split time under center with Jones getting the lion’s share of reps at quarterback as Florida won 42-20 in Tampa.

Despite limited reps, Richardson brought an explosiveness to the offense unseen by Jones. Richardson is averaging a ludicrous 137.5 rushing yards per game through Florida’s first two wins. Redshirt junior wide receiver Jacob Copeland caught both of Richardson’s touchdown passes en route to a career-high 175 yards.

If the Gators’ first two games are indicative of what’s to come next weekend vs. the Crimson Tide, expect both quarterbacks to see the field in one of Florida’s biggest home games in the past decade.

The battle at quarterback isn’t the only storyline to watch from the Florida offense . The Gators have now rushed for over 300 yards in back-to-back games to start the season. The last time Florida accomplished that in consecutive games was in 2008. The Gators are now averaging an unfathomable 359 yards rushing per game this season, tops in the nation.

Defensively, Florida’s front seven continued to cause problems for the second straight week, coming away with nine tackles for loss. Redshirt senior defensive end Zachary Carter continued to look like the Gators’ most impactful player on line, finishing with 2.5 tackles in the backfield. Junior Kaiir Elam, who’s projected to go in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, came away with his first interception of the season after notching two picks in 2020. Junior linebacker Mohamoud Diabate led the defense with seven tackles against the Bulls.

The Gators’ 42-20 road win against the Bulls gave head coach Dan Mullen his 100th career victory with a majority of those wins coming at Mississippi State. He’s now 31-9 at Florida. Here’s what some former Gators had to say about the game.
