With the No. 8 Florida Gators still riding high following a Week 0 win over in-state rival Miami, the team added some good news for its future late Sunday night when four-star 2021 defensive back Clinton Burton Jr. (Baltimore, MD) committed to the program. Burton (5-foot-11, 170 pounds), the No. 137 overall player in his class, made the announcement on Twitter.
“I would like to announce my Verbal commitment to The University of Florida!” Burton wrote in a note (edited for clarity). “Committed!! #BiteDown21,” he tweeted.
Florida went head-to-head with Alabama for Burton’s pledge, and the prospect had a long offer sheet that also included the likes of Clemson. Cornerbacks coach Torrian Gray can be credited for hauling in another verbal pledge from a top-tier prospect.
The Gators are still looking to fill out their Class of 2020, which has been slow-moving since a number of defections and sits at 14th nationally. However, the addition of Burton moves the Class of 2021 to fifth in the nation with the defensive back now standing as the team’s top-rated commitment that cycle.
