Florida backup defensive lineman injured, says he’s out for the season

Another Florida Gators player appears to be seriously injured before the 2019 season has even gotten underway. Junior defensive lineman Elijah Conliffe posted on Instagram earlier this week that he was out for the season, and head coach Dan Mullen confirmed Thursday night that Conliffe is indeed injured.

Mullen did not confirm the extent of Conliffe’s injury.

Early Wednesday morning, Conliffe took to Instagram and posted a picture of his foot with the caption, “Lord why?” He followed that with a picture of a countdown clock with the caption, “my season ova, so I gotta take it out on somebody.”

The No. 8 Gators are just a couple days away from taking on the Miami Hurricanes to open the 2019 season Orlando, Florida.

If Conliffe is indeed out for the entire year, he will join redshirt junior defensive back C.J. McWilliams and redshirt freshman linebacker David Reese on the season-ending injury list.

In two seasons at Florida, Conliffe has totaled 15 total tackles and one fumble recovery as a reserve. He was listed alongside redshirt junior Marlon Dunlap Jr. as an “OR” designation at backup defensive tackle on the Week 0 depth chart.

Though the Gators may be thin at the interior along the defensive line, they are experienced. Whether Mullen plans to add some new names to the mix or simply use some of Florida’s backup nose tackles at both positions (which is more likely) remains to be seen.
