The still-improving Class of 2022 grew Monday for the Florida Gators as three-star linebacker EJ Lightsey (Fitzgerald, GA) committed to the program. His verbal pledge makes him the 12th member of the class, which is still trying to find its footing.

Lightsey (6-foot-2, 210 pounds), the No. 429 overall player in the 247Sports Composite, visited the program a few times over the summer. The Gators are by far his best offer, and his recruitment was made a priority by linebackers coach Christian Robinson.

His commitment, boosts Florida six spots in the 247Sports Composite team rankings to No. 24 overall and No. 8 in the SEC. The Gators have seven four-star pledges but only one of the top 100 and three of the top 200 players in the nation as part of their class.

Florida may add a second commitment this week with offensive tackle David Conner (Deerfield Beach, FL) set to announce his decision Tuesday. Conner is not rated or ranked in the 247Sports Composite, and like Lightsey, has a short offer list.
