Third time’s a charm? At this point, let’s just hope there’s not a fourth. Four-star defensive back Kamar Wilcoxson (Bradenton, FL) committed to the Florida Gators on Friday, the third time the IMG Academy has decided to continue his football-playing career in Gainesville, Florida.

Wilcoxson (6-foot-1, 183 pounds) originally committed to Florida as a high school sophomore on Nov. 3, 2018, a pledge that lasted for six months. Part of the reason for his initial departure may have been a coaching change as he was then an athlete expected to play in the secondary.

Three months later, Wilcoxson again decided to play for the Gators on July 27, 2019, only to pull out of the class eight months after that and eventually commit to Tennessee in April. That pledge lasted less than two months with him now back in the fold at Florida.

On Friday, Wilcoxson attempted to make his permanent intentions known, tweeting, “Business over emotion, imma Gator stop the commotion.” He also shared a graphic with a longer, more in-depth statement.

“To THE University of Florida, the school I’ve dreamed of playing at since I was a kid, let’s ride. Florida was the first school to offer me and, since that day, Coach [Dan] Mullen and his staff have never stopped recruiting me. Throughout the rough parts of my recruitment, they never turned on me and, that shows me a lot. I cannot wait to live out my dream of playing in The Swamp, in front of the best fans in the world, in the best state in the world. I know we’ve been through some trials and tribulations, but I’m a Gator and, I’m here to stay. I’M BLESSED TO BE COMMITTED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA FOR GOOD. My recruitment is officially over. … I’m firm with my decision. I will cut off all communication with other schools. Please respect my decision. Gator Nation, let’s ride. It’s Great to be a Florida Gator!”

Wilcoxson’s commitment boosted Florida to No. 7 overall in the 247Sports Composite team rankings for 2021. The Gators remain ranked second in the SEC behind the Volunteers but now have 17 commitments, including nine prospects with four-star ratings.

He is the second addition to Florida’s defensive backfield in as many days following three-star Dakota Mitchell (Winter Park, FL), who committed to the Gators on Thursday.
