Though the slowest part of the offseason, Florida Gators football has been through a relatively busy week. And for a change, all of it was positive news surrounding the program.

Junior college tight end Lucas Krull — a solid 6-foot-6, 255-pound prospect rated at four stars by 247Sports — committed to Florida over Kansas State earlier this week. Krull, who will be joining UF despite family ties to KSU, will be able to play immediately for the Gators and has three seasons of eligibility remaining.

Krull’s has been a long road to this point as he attended Arkansas on a baseball scholarship out of high school before transferring to Jefferson College where he continued his athletic career as a pitcher. He has not played football for the last two years with his last action coming in 2015 when he hauled in 13 touchdowns during his senior season at Shawnee Mill Valley High School.

The Gators also received some positive news about players already on their roster this week as redshirt sophomore offensive lineman Brett Heggie and sophomore running back Malik Davis announced on social media that they have been cleared to play following season-ending injuries.

Heggie is expected to start in as a starter — either at left guard or center — this season, while Davis will be one of a number of running backs getting touches in 2018. Though he showed out in a major way last season, Davis will likely be competing for the No. 2 spot on the depth chart along with junior Lamical Perine behind the presumed starter, returning redshirt junior Jordan Scarlett.
