The confetti flew at the Alamodome in San Antonio. The streets of Gainesville, Florida, flooded with humanity as the Stephen C. O’Connell Center erupted. And thousands upon thousands of Florida Gators fans the world over celebrated with friends and family — online and off — as the program won its third national championship in men’s basketball on Monday night, 65-63 over the Houston Cougars.
Taking one of the toughest paths in history toward its first national title since 2007, Florida stood atop the country’s best conference and one of the most loaded Final Fours in history authoring one comeback after another behind the clutch play of senior point guard Walter Clayton Jr. (the Most Outstanding Player in the 2025 NCAA Tournament and perhaps program history) and tremendous leadership of head coach Todd Golden (the second Gators coach to win a title and youngest to do so nationally in 42 years).
OnlyGators.com will wax poetic about this Florida team for days on end, but for now, let’s take a closer look at the celebration of a championship won and program finally restored following the departure of Billy Donovan with a new banner set to be hung in the rafters above his court.
