Florida Gators head football coach Dan Mullen took center court at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center on Saturday to address Gator Nation. In doing so, he expressed his excitement in having returned to Gainesville, Florida, and promised that the Gators will be going after a national championship standard in football just as the athletic program does in other sports.

Watch his speech below (via SEC Country) and scroll down a bit further for a transcription of some of his comments to the O’Dome crowd.

“We’re going to give you a football team — I promise you — that you can be proud of when they’re on the field on Saturdays. Our guys are working their tails off right now to live up to what we know the Gators’ standard is. … On the football field, that standard is not just SEC but national championships. That’s what we promise we’re going to bring back to you here in The Swamp in Gainesville and put the Gators back on top as the most dominant team in the United States of America.”

Workouts began for Florida football this week with a new coach in tow as Mullen hired former Tennessee offensive coordinator Larry Scott as his new tight ends coach in place of Ja’Juan Seider, who left UF to return to coaching running backs now at Penn State.

Up next for the Gators is National Signing Day on Feb. 7 followed by the start of spring practice and the 2018 Orange & Blue Debut on April 14. Mullen made sure to let the crowd know how important it was they show up for the spring game and every other Florida football game in 2018.

“I want everybody that comes here, in the state of Florida, to know this is our state,” he said. “And any time you enter The Swamp, you’re going to play in the most hostile environment in all of college football.”
