It had been nearly two weeks since the Florida Gators added talent to their team when defensive back Adrian Maddox announced Sunday night that he would join the program out of the transfer portal. Maddox (6-foot-3, 200 pounds) spent the 2024 season with UAB after playing the first two years of his college career at Alabama State.

Unrated as a high school prospect and unrated as a transfer, the Conyers, Georgia, native will be stepping up to the most significant level of competition he has faced in his career. However, there was clear Power Four interest in his services as Maddox also visited Arkansas, Louisville and Georgia before committing to Florida, according to 247Sports. Many believed he was headed to the Bulldogs.

A finalist in 2022 for the Jerry Rice Award, presented annually to the top freshman at the FCS level, Maddox has amassed 114 tackles (77 solo) with 15 pass defenses, three sacks, four forced fumbles and three interceptions (one returned for a touchdown last season).

The Gators have now added five transfers out of the portal with only one serving as an every-down player at the Power Four level (UCLA wide receiver J. Michael Sturdivant).
