If there’s any confusion as to why the Florida Gators are so dominant defensively and inefficient offensively, just take a look at this ranking of the top college football players in the nation.

Now that we’re at the midway point of the 2016 season, 247 Sports decided to break down the top players in the nation and hand out star ratings to them just like they were recruits.

Here’s where the eight Gators stand on the list. See if you notice a trend.

CB Jalen Tabor — No. 16 —
LB Jarrad Davis — No. 23 —
CB Quincy Wilson — No. 65 —
S Marcus Maye — No. 72 —
DT Caleb Brantley — No. 92 —
LB Alex Anzalone — No. 152 —
OL Jawaan Taylor — No. 191 —
WR Antonio Callaway — No. 217 —

Here, we’ll draw the conclusions for you.

While Florida does have two of the 32 five-star players in the nation, both are on defense. As are the Gators’ top six players. Florida’s top-ranked offensive player is a freshman lineman, while its best offensive playmaker is the 27th wideout and No. 50 overall among receivers and running backs.

And now some comparisons. Using No. 217 as a marker, Alabama has 13 players ranked in that range, while Florida State only has six. Tennessee only has two players on the entire list, and Georgia’s top player is ranked No. 161.
