Seven Gators named to 2014 Preseason All-SEC

Seven Florida Gators football players were voted onto 2014 Preseason All-SEC teams on Thursday as chosen by the league’s 14 coaches.

Sophomore cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III and junior defensive end Dante Fowler, Jr. led the way for Florida with All-SEC First Team nods on defense.

Hargreaves ended the 2013 campaign as an All-SEC First Team member, while Fowler found a spot on the second team.

Redshirt senior right tackle Chaz Green earned a spot on the Preseason All-SEC Second Team, while juniors running back Matt Jones, left tackle D.J. Humphries and linebacker Antonio Morrison were named to the third team.

Redshirt senior wide receiver Andre Debose also picked up a third-team nod as a return specialist.

Alabama and LSU led the way with 11 representatives each on the three teams. Seven schools had seven or more selections.

At the 2014 SEC Media Days in July, four Gators were voted onto the media’s Preseason All-SEC teams. Fowler and Hargreaves were placed on the first team, while Debose was a second-team return specialist and Green got a nod for the third team.

Interesting that you can move up or down without ever playing a game. I don’t even believe that Matt Jones is our 1st team tailback. . or is he?

  2. Dave Massey says:

Hey, what day is it? what day is it? It’s 9 days till kickoff, that’s what day it is!!! Don’t even have to take my shoes off to count that high.

Hey Michael, we got five guys who could start at tailback for most any team in the country, let’s pound ‘em!!!

Humphries is so terrible he is named to all SEC preseason, I think I will take their opinions over some troll.

Yes, Humphries’ selection caught my attention too. Must not suck that bad.

Agree with you on the running backs. I would include both Herndon and Lane and make it 6. That’s not even getting to Joyer, who is another underutilized talent. We have shiftiness and speed all over the field and let’s not forget that the unassuming Driskel has deer speed combined with bull strength. If Roper is as advertised, it could make for a very exciting year.

Like you, I am not conceding any loss to any team. That being said, however, with our schedule and a “comeback/rebuilding year” of sorts ahead, a 9-3 season would be a tremendous accomplishment. We would have beaten some good teams and won some big games to get to 9-3.

One thing is for sure: I have never been a believer that the school who ends up winning the National Championship is the only one whose fans deserve to be happy. That’s the beauty of college football. There’s room for lots of happiness and enjoyment as long as our team is competitive and doesn’t embarrass us. After all, in the final analysis, and as much as it pains me to say this, it is just a game. Ha ha!

      GO GATORS!!!
