Kiffin kicks Tennessee to curb for USC job

Tennessee VolunteersLane Kiffin has agreed to become the next head coach of the USC Trojans, multiple sources told ESPN‘s Chris Low Tuesday night. Kiffin, whose sole season with Tennessee was shrouded in controversy both on and off the field, will bring his father Monte Kiffin along as defensive coordinator. Ed Orgeron is expected to follow and continue his role under Kiffin as assistant head coach and recruiting coordinator, and Norm Chow plans to return to the program as offensive coordinator.

“We are really excited to welcome Lane Kiffin back to USC,” Trojans athletic director Mike Garrett said. “I was able to watch him closely when he was an assistant with us and what I saw was a bright, creative young coach who I thought would make an excellent head coach here if the opportunity ever arose. I’m confident he and his staff will keep USC football performing at the high level that we expect. Lane brings a lot to the table. He has a coaching background both in the pros and in the best collegiate conferences. He has a great command of the X’s and O’s. He is familiar with the Trojan landscape and will be a great representative of our university. He keeps the game fun. And, very importantly, he has proven to be one of the finest recruiters anywhere.”

An assistant with USC from 2001-06, Kiffin left to become head coach of the Oakland Raiders in 2007. He spent just over one season in Oakland, going 5-15 before being fired by owner Al Davis in September 2008. His sole season with the Volunteers ended with a 7-6 record and 37-14 loss to the Virginia Tech Hokies in the Peach Bowl.

Kiffin made it a point to become public enemy No. 1 for the Florida Gators and their fans after he claimed his team would be singing “Rocky Top all night long” after defeating UF in The Swamp. He furthered his villainous stature by not only insulting head coach Urban Meyer but also falsely accusing him of recruiting violations after nabbing wide receiver Nu’Keese Richardson away from the Gators.

Ironically, Kiffin and his staff incurred six minor recruiting violations over the last year, and Richardson was dismissed from the team after committing armed robbery outside of a gas station in Knoxville, TN. Florida would go on to defeat Tennessee 23-13, leaving Meyer undefeated against Kiffin in Southeastern Conference play.

    Ahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

    That is all

Guess a bad year recruiting and a shitty year with a bowl loss is all it took to get this guy back to California. This guy is as trustworthy as my cheating ex who fucked the whole UT baseball team.

    Tennessee fans are probably floored.

This kinda makes me upset……..wait no it doesn’t. Gator nation needs to grab a beer and sit back and enjoy the free show that is about to ensue. Guess Kiffin is going to be 0-1 vs. the Gators for his immaculate SEC career

All I have to say is…what a ____! You can fill in the blank.

Good riddance to that classless buffoon and his the rest of his entourage. If he thinks he’ll escape the scrutiny of the NCAA, he’s an even bigger idiot than he is right now.

I’m sure Urban Meyer is breathing a sigh of relief knowing he won’t have to deal with this schmuck any longer.

Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on your way out of the SEC, Lanie boy.

  5. Talk about confirming everything anyone has ever said about you.

what a joke! wonder what usc fans feel about the hire

  7. O-town Gator says:

Joe Schad just said during an ESPN live interview that Kiffin made a lot of enemies in the SEC and hasn’t really been received well here in Orlando at the coaches’ convention going on now.

  8. Brittany says:

Well, no one ever accused Kiffin of being classy. This is surprising but not shocking, he has no loyalty and he won’t be missed. It’s pretty sad that Tennessee will have to deal with the punishment they get from the whole hostess issue without the coach that caused the issues.

Dear University of Tennessee; You lay down with dogs, you wake up with fleas. Enjoy comprimising your standards for a year only to have Lane Kiffin leave for USC? Maybe NuKese can come too — he was only kicked out of UT … maybe he still has Trojan eligibility. Sincerely, Me

Good God, is USC out of their minds!!!!!!!!! This guy is a LOSER and one guy that USC didn’t need is a known NCAA rules abuser!! I was hoping he would would be at Tennessee at least 2 more years and set the program even further behind, but maybe he saw tough times ahead wiith a new QB, O LIne and new key defensive players. Or maybe he saw the NCAA Sheriff closing in on the Tenn program. Now my fear is that Tennessee will go out and find a REAL coach, although he too will struggle for a couple of years…

As someone raised by a Cal fan, as someone who lives in Oregon and has to hear about the PAC-10 and Oregon/Oregon St. ad naseum (little do they understand the sheer awesomeness and dominance of the SEC!), and as someone who hates both USC and Lane Kiffin with every fiber of my being, I could not be happier about this. As if USC wasn’t in enough trouble, their problems are about to grow exponentially. This seriously could not be better, unless you’re a USC fan. Love, love, love this!!! Muahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!

Like Forrest Gump, that’s all I have to say about that. Go Gators!

  12. ReptilesRule says:

Gee, I guess Charlie Weis wasn’t available! I was looking at their recruits to see who we could go get, didn’t see any worth while…maybe that’s why he’s leaving…Urbans kicking his azz in recruiting too!!!!

  13. Aligator says:

next Saben will be gone somewhere, probably Tennessee to trya and win another championship?? crazy, but thank God!

  14. FFM says:

Lame Kiffin is a *gigantic* douche bag. How utterly classless and dishonorable to abandon Tenn after a single year.

Memo to Urban: please take any kid who would even consider playing for Lame Kiffin off of your recruiting list – because that kid is either stupid or completing lacking in integrity.

Man – USC must be *desperate* to get a HC. What was Lame – like their 53 choice? Everyone and anyone was approached for that job. Can you say “sanctions”?

My biggest worry: Tenn lands Gruden to HC. Hopefully his aspirations to return to the NFL prevent him from going to UT.

  15. brlgator says:

adam nailed it: kiffin confirmed every statement about him

    bad night for tenn

    good night for usc

I cant decide if its good or bad for recruiting. yes kiffin is out our region but he will be able to compete for better recruits at usc

  16. Good night for USC bc of Monte, Orgeron and Chow – but not Kiffin.

This is actually good for UT…IF they capitalize and hire a good coach.

  17. ReptilesRule says:

Adam, you are absolutely right. If LK stays out of the coaches meetings, they might actually be successful.

  18. Daniel M. says:

Yet another douche-tastic move by the guy that just begs you to hate him. Congrats patho-boy, you hold the rare distinction of being the only guy in the world that could get people to empathize with AL DAVIS! What a buffoon.

Adam’s comments do get the 2010 Concision Award.

I almost feel sorry for UT fan today. Man did that guy bamboozle them.

Sorry to hear about your angst Brandon. But didn’t you at some point sense that you were being sold a flawed bill of goods by shifty Lane?

Considering the burning UT just got from LK, they should abandon the glowing orange color in favor of burnt orange.

“This guy is as trustworthy as my cheating ex who f*&#ed the whole UT baseball team.” – Mr2Bits Ouch! But can she hit a fastball?

  19. Mr2Bits says:

Daniel : She was slapping plenty of balls around. Needless to say it didn’t work out but was for the better because I dumped her and soon found my wife who I couldn’t be happier with

  20. Mr2Bits says:

Dan : Whats your source on Taylor? I’d also be happy if we snagged Ambles for WR. Dude really tore it up at the UA game

  21. Aligator says:

I had this down as one of our games we could have a tough time and or possibly lose next year. I don’t see that happening now. It will be a tough one for sure, but I see this as a W.

  22. Daniel – I had to edit your post because no link was provided and it seemed whatever you copied was directly from another source. I hope you understand. Don’t worry, it will be covered in my first story this morning.

Go look at the reaction in Knoxville on Deadspin.com

I was just thinking about what would happen in Alabama if Satan pulled the same thing…Holy Buh-Jesus! The National Guard would likely be involved.

  24. Drew 4 Orange and Blue says:

Can’t get the smile off my face since I heard the news….at least when Saban leaves Bama he will leave them with a NC….UT got nothing but a bunch of SEC coaches mad at them and possible NCAA sanctions…..can this get any better!!!!

  25. Katie says:

I’m a Tennessee fan and an SEC fan. I know how incredible your program at Florida is because I’ve spent my whole life watching us lose to you again and again. Please, for your brothers and sisters at the SEC, take your talent to the top again next year and knock the smug look off Kiffin and remind him that the SEC is the only real conference. F- USC.
