Gators ranked No. 2 in first BCS standings of 2012

The Florida Gators checked in at No. 2 in the first BCS standings of the 2012 season with a .9092 average, one spot behind the No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide (.9761). Florida is one of four Southeastern Conference teams in the top seven and one of seven in the top 18 of the rankings.

Earlier Sunday, the seventh regular season editions of the USA Today Coaches and Associated Press Top 25 polls were released with the Gators in the top five of both polls for the first time since the 2010 preseason.

Florida moved up both polls, advancing two spots to No. 4 and one spot to No. 3 in the respective rankings. The Gators checked in with 1,297 voting points (+132) in the USA Today rankings and 1,361 voting points (+94) in the AP poll.

The Crimson Tide remained the unanimous No. 1 team in the country. Alabama received all 59 first-place votes from the coaches and all 60 first-place votes from the AP voters.
