Fresh off a second straight humiliating defeat on the gridiron, the Florida Gators received some tremendous news for the future of their program as five-star wide receiver Easton Royal (New Orleans, LA) committed to join the Class of 2027. Head coach Jon Sumrall and offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner have continued pressing for playmakers on the recruiting trail to join what sets up as an extremely talented unit next season.

Royal (6-foot, 214 pounds) had been committed to Texas since November 2025. He officially visited Florida on June 11 with the Gators maintaining momentum while pursuing the talented prospect despite a subsequent official visit to the Longhorns. UF also beat out LSU, his home state team, which was similarly pressing for a flip.

Ranked No. 5 in the 247Sports Composite, Royal would be the third five-star wideout on Florida’s roster should sophomores Vernell Brown III and Dallas Wilson return for their third seasons. He is the second five-star prospect in the Gators’ Class of 2027, joining offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller (Coatesville, PA), the No. 2 player in the nation.

Royal, a dual-sport star who broke a 46-year composite record for the 100-yard dash in Louisiana, plans to join Florida’s track & field team, too.

The Gators move up three spots to No. 8 in the 247Sports team rankings following Royal’s commitment.
